A thick culture of the long Spirostomum and the pink Blepharisma protozoa at the very high power of 400x. A Blepharisma gets stuck allowing it to briefly exhibit its prominent undulating membrane.
The pink protozoan Blepharisma very nearly catches dinner as it demonstrates the use of its nearly invisible undulating membrane in guiding prey into its gullet. Magnification 400x. Pond water.
A very thick culture of the long Spirostomum and the pink Blepharisma protozoa at 40x then a much greater magnification to 400x to better show the actual press of the bodies.

Pink Blepharisma protozoa in sexual conjunction. While actual population increase is achieved by cell division, actual sexual recombination and nuclear exchange is done in conjunction as shown here
Compilation of Microscope shots of Blepharisma japonicum and bacteria, microscopy, macro
Pink Blepharisma protozoa bustle about in a drop of pond water. Blepharisma is one of only two truly colored (achlorophyllic) common protozoa, the other being the blue Stentor.
This is a mixed culture of the pink ciliate Blepharisma and the smaller fast-moving Urocentrum. Two of the Urocentrum are in rare conjugation (involved in the sexual exchange of nuclear material.)
