Drawing a straight line in Photoshop is fairly simple and possible through multiple tools, including the Line tool, the Pen tool, and the Brush tool. For example, the Pen tool lets you create very complicated and extremely accurate shapes. Each designer has their own favorite method, but we find the easiest and most straightforward way to make a line in Photoshop is to use the Line tool.
The Line tool is located as a subsection of the Rectangle tool. If you click and press on the Rectangle tool, the Line tool will pop up along with other shape tools. In Photoshop, the Line tool is considered a shape tool because it is the equivalent to a skinny rectangle. Once you have selected the Line tool, merely click and drag to create a new line. If you hold the Shift key while dragging the line, you can also draw a perfectly horizontal or vertical line.
The Line tool offers many variations under Stroke Options. If you press on More Options, you can find custom line presents, dashed lines, round lines, and more. It’s a great tool to create a line to your specifications.
