Uploading Your Own Image to Shutterstock Editor

Shutterstock Editor is a powerful image editor from the photography experts at Shutterstock. In addition to giving you access to our enormous library of beautiful photos, illustrations, and vector images to use in Editor, we also let you upload your own image to modify in the tool. This lets you create highly personalized images for use in branded graphics, promotional design projects, and much more.
Retrieving an Image From Your Desktop or Account
Start by clicking the upward pointing arrow located at the bottom of the tool bar on the left. A menu will appear. From here you can choose three different ways of bringing a new image into Editor for active use:

  • Upload an image: This will let you browse through your computer’s folders to find the image you want to use. For convenience, it is a good idea to save the image to your desktop so you can find it quickly when you are ready to upload it to Editor.

  • Drag an image from your desktop: This option gives you the freedom of dragging and dropping a file’s icon onto the upload menu itself.  To use this option, open the folder containing your image. The desktop is a convenient place to store images, and the desktop folder can be explored through any file window. Once the file is located, simply click and hold the left mouse button, drag the file icon without releasing the button, then drop the file by releasing the button over the blue highlighted menu box in Editor. Your image is now ready to use.

  • Adding an image from your account: If you’ve already logged in to your Shutterstock account, you’ll see your previously uploaded images displayed in the upload menu. To add one of these images to your design, just click on it. You can then use it as an object on the canvas or as a background for the rest of your project.

If you do not have a Shutterstock account, signing up takes only a few minutes and is completely free. As a member, you can easily upload images from your own computer and edit them inside our powerful editing tool. Your account also lets you instantly purchase download credits so you never have to worry when it is time to download a finished image for sharing or publication. You can save your work and come back to it later on any computer with an internet connection. Just log in to your account and Editor will be ready.
Uploading an Image to Your Account for Use in Editor
Adding a new image to your personal Shutterstock account is very simple and involves many of the same steps. Begin by clicking the upload button and using the file folder window to locate the file you’d like to upload. For convenience, you can first place your files on the desktop or in new folders you create just to hold the images for later upload to Shutterstock Editor. Once your files have uploaded, you will see them in your personal image library. You can use them in Editor on their own or together with any of Shutterstock’s beautiful image assets. This gives you more freedom to create professional, attractive designs without worry
