Redownloading Images

Purchasing an image from Shutterstock is not only simple, it is permanent. Enjoy peace of mind with knowing that once an image is purchased, it is yours to keep and to redownload for free if it ever gets lost or corrupted. This is true regardless of whether your subscription is active or not. Redownloads do not count toward any active plans that you do have, which means you never have to pay twice for something you already licensed.

Steps to Redownload

The redownload process is simple and ensures that a customer will always have access to previously licensed content for free. By accessing your license history page, you will be able to view a record of all the files you have purchased and downloaded in the past. In order to redownload an image, video clip or music track, simply choose the redownload option by clicking on the three dots below the thumbnail.

Redownload Images in Other Sizes

The initial purchase with Shutterstock also entitles an owner to redownload a different size of the image file later on. In order to do this, simply click on an image thumbnail in your license history and select the size you prefer to download. Our available image sizes include:

  • Small (S) – The small download size works well for most digital use and will download quickly.

  • Medium (M) – Customers needing to make small prints and/or purchasing for digital use should download a medium size file.

  • Large (L) – This file size is the original, as provided by the contributor. Those intending to use the image for large size prints and/or digital use should download this size.

Indefinite Use

In addition to allowing users to redownload their images and clips at will, Shutterstock is pleased to inform you that you can use licensed content as many times as you need. You can use the same images as a backdrop on your home page, email newsletter template, business cards and more.
