How does Shutterstock recommend images similar to the one I'm viewing?

At its core, Shutterstock is a tech company. In our continued effort to innovate and create a better customer experience, we've introduced reverse image search to help you find the perfect image faster.

Visually Similar Images
Some image sites use algorithms that rely on keywords to display similar images and help you discover new ones. Sometimes it doesn't quite hit the mark. To solve this problem, we've incorporated computer vision technology into these recommendations, and we're pleased to now offer vastly improved recommendations. These recommendation do not rely on keywords associated with images. Instead, the technology "sees" the images pixels and analyzes it next to our more than 70 million images to find others that are similar.

Similar results are displayed on the image detail page, just below the main image. We also offer similar image results based on your last search in your customized account homepage, which can be viewed if you are logged in to your account.
