Mina who is now 30 years old, took part in the 25 January 2011 uprising which led to the departure of the then president Hosni Mubarak. One of the key monents of that period was for him the clashes of Maspero which saw majority Christian protesters clashing with security forces resulting in some 27 deaths. He continued in the movement acting as a a program manager of Civil Liberties and Minorities Programs, at the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms then had to live Egypt in 2017 after he was arrested in 2016.
