On July 15, Offset welcomed two inspiring artists, Maira Kalman and Gael Towey, to Shutterstock’s HQ in the Empire State Building, where we hosted the premiere of Gael’s latest Portraits in Creativity film, featuring Kalman. Watch our video below for highlights from the evening, which marked the first in our series of Offset #ArtistConvos, then scroll down to see the full Portraits in Creativity: Maira Kalman film.

Maira has written and illustrated 18 children’s books, created an illustrated version of The Elements of Style, and is a frequent contributor to the New Yorker. She also danced the part of the duck in Isaac Mizrahi’s production of Peter and the Wolf at the Guggenhiem museum, in a tutu and flippers. Kalman’s Girls Standing on Lawns, a project for the Museum of Modern Art, is a collaboration with writer Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snicket.

After 22 years as a creative lead at Martha Stewart Living, Gael Towey stepped away to pursue her longstanding interest in narratives, sharing artists’ stories through short films titled Portraits in Creativity. Her influence on the design community can’t be overstated enough.

At Shutterstock and Offset, we celebrate storytelling everyday through the work of our artists, so we’re proud to share that love with creative forces like Gael and Maira. Stay tuned for info on more Offset #ArtistConvos!
