Craft Project: Make Your Own Paper Sculptures

Whether you’ve decided to enchant your friends with adorably crafted gifts, or simply want to personalize your home decoration, we’ve got you covered. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create adorable paper sculptures with multiple purposes and uses.

In this post, we’ll cover:

How to Make Your Own Paper Sculptures

This is my second craft tutorial (check out the first one here). I’m so happy that I had a chance to create something new, and the holidays felt like the perfect time.

I always put a lot of effort into my home’s holiday decor, and being able to say that I crafted my own decorations is special.

It’s fun to play around with Shutterstock assets to create something cool!

Step 1: Materials You’ll Need

Top down view of crafting tools and materials

  • Downloaded patterns
  • An X-Acto knife
  • A ruler
  • A scissor
  • Heavy paper
  • A printer
  • Double-sided tape
  • Clear thread
  • A cutting board

Step 2: Select a Pattern

Select one of the pattern templates below (click to view full-size). Print the template out on a piece of your paper. I used Mohawk‘s natural white paper for these creations because I like its texture and look best.

Select a pattern that you’ve downloaded and print it on the other side of the paper.

Step 3: Cut Out Template

Cut out the pattern template, then fold along the dotted lines. I use an X-Acto knife to lightly go over the lines before folding.

Step 4: Connect the Edges

Used double-sided tape to stick the edges together. If you prefer, paper glue is okay too.

Step 5: Add the Thread

Using the clear thread, make a knot, and insert it where indicated below. Continue doing the same with other shapes.

Your sculptures can function as ornaments or simple DIY decorations. I took a branch from outside my home and painted it white, then hung the sculptures from that.
