Give your vacation photos an eye-catching twist with the clip art freebie pack and Shutterstock Create. In this quick tutorial for beginners, we’ll look at how to create an illustrated border for your photo and bring in some rustic script text, too.
Go to Shutterstock Create and choose Instagram Post from the selection of blank canvases at the top of the workspace.
You can browse images from the Shutterstock library by going to Images > Stock Photos. Here, I’ve already downloaded a stock image onto my computer.
So, go to Images > Upload. Once uploaded, click on the image in the Uploads panel to drop it onto the canvas.
Click on Images at the top of the left-hand toolbar, then choose Upload. Navigate to the freebie folder and choose one of the PNG versions of the logo clip art.
Once uploaded, you can find these in your Uploads folder, as before. Begin to drop images onto the canvas, building up a border design.
To make the tropical colors of the illustrations pop, you can apply effects to the original photo. Select the photo and go to Edit Element > Effects, and apply a Super B&W effect.
Next, apply a Vignette effect, changing the color of the vignette to a pale blue to pick up the tones of the wave illustrations.
You can also bring more focus back to the subject of the photo by applying a Fancy Focus effect, placing the focal over the face of the subject.
Finally, to give the photo a vintage look, apply a Yester Year effect.
Go to Add Elements > Text and click Add text to drop a text frame onto the canvas.
I’ve gone for a handwritten script font, Hellvina Hand Script, and given the text color a pale blue hue to match the waves.
Rotating the text frame slightly gives it a jaunty, retro feel.
Once you’ve finished working on your design, head up to the Download button at the top-right. You can download a JPEG version of the image to your computer, then upload it to your Instagram account.
