Since visiting the Illustrative 13 Festival in Berlin, I’ve made it a point to focus more on the power of illustration in telling a story. Most recently, I had a strong reaction to Matthew Woodson’s artwork in the Sunday Styles section of the New York Times. His illustration added a powerful visual statement to the piece, creating an emotional impact greater than what I’m sure I would have felt otherwise.
