In honor of Fashion Week, we reached out to some of our favorite runway and backstage photographers to ask them their top tips for shooting fashion.
Helga Traxler, an Austrian fashion photographer, focuses on her top tips for runway photography in the video interview below. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Der Zeit, and Flair Magazine.
Helga Traxler’s tips for runway photography:
1. Accept the Rules
It’s very busy and everyone is in a hurry. Be aware of the rules and you will be able to get the images you need.
2. Be Nice and Sneak Through
Be polite to the models. The more comfortable they are, the better the pictures will be.
3. Head Over Heels
Wear comfortable clothes that you can move around in.
4. Less Is More
Only bring the equipment you need so that you can move around easier.
5. Use Your Time Wisely
The show moves quickly, so make sure that you have everything prepared in advance.
