How does Shutterstock Footage Work?
We offer high quality royalty-free stock footage at affordable rates. You may purchase footage in one of two ways: on a per-clip basis, or by annual (1 year) subscription. For purchasing footage on a per-clip basis, just add the clips to your shopping cart and complete the secure checkout process. You will be able to download the clips immediately upon credit card authorization. For an annual subscription, you must choose between a Low-Res, SD or HD plan, then decide on a 5, 10, 25, or 50 download limit for the 1 year period. You can continue to use the clips you downloaded during your subscription period after the 1 year term is over, and there are no hidden or additional fees.

Clip Boxes

What is a clipbox?
A clipbox is used to store a group of video clips that you would like to eventually download or refer to later. When you find a clip you would like to save, simply click on the clipbox icon, create a clipbox by giving it a title, and your clip(s) will be stored there for later viewing and downloading. You are not obligated to download clips in your clipbox, and it is entirely up to you how many clipboxes you have, or if you use the clips later.

What are the limits on subscription downloads?
Download allotments do not expire daily; they exist for the duration of the 1 year subscription term. You can download your allotted number of clips (5, 10, 25, or 50) at any time during the term of your purchase. This is an incredible deal -- a single clip at other agencies can cost the same or more than a subscription to Shutterstock.

What does 'royalty-free' mean?
"Royalty-free" designates a stock video clip license that provides for the unlimited use of a video clip in any media defined in the licensing terms. "Royalty-free" is the opposite of "rights-managed." A rights-managed video clip needs a specific license stating the audience and material intended for that clip. All the video clips on Shutterstock Footage are royalty-free and so do not require an individual license. All video clips are bound by the main licensing agreement.
No, you may not create online galleries of our video clips. We maintain an online gallery, and users can be referred directly to our website. We suggest that you use a Clip Box for the purpose of collecting and sharing clips.

Do your film clips have model releases?
Yes. In instances where video clips have recognizable faces in them, those people have model releases on file in the Shutterstock Footage offices. Some editorial video clips may not be model released. In these cases, this is indicated below the video clip.
