After a few weeks off from the series, we’re back with our latest Fashion Icon: Denis Tevekov (Contributor name: Dpaint). His work seems fitting for the start of the Spring 2013 Fashion cycle (New York Fashion Week kicked off last Thursday); it’s light and airy, romantic and seductive. We’re particularly fond of Dpaint’s color palette, which consists of muted blues, smokey greys, and dusty yellows and greens — colors so soothing, they’re almost edible.
Given his exquisite use of colors, it’s no surprise that Denis is also an abstract expressionist painter. Images of some of his painted works can be found in the Shutterstock collection, here. Denis says he began taking photos while studying art and graphics at the Nizhny Tagil State Social-Pedagogical Academy (with our previous Fashion Icon, Alias). He then went on to teach painting, graphics and composition at the same Academy. Continuing his love of the arts, Denis also enjoys sketching and experimenting on an array of different textures — including wood, metal, canvas and paper.
There’s a rhythm to Denis’s work that manages to be both seductive and soothing, graceful, and, dare we say… poetic? Even his racier photographs such as those below of two (almost) nudes, and the woman in pearls, have a subtle touch of whimsy, making them just daring enough to still be used commercially. Whatever the case, we like this fine line Dpaint straddles with his vast collection of fashionable photographs.
