With a passion for vintage fashion and design, Carin Clark, known as Transfuchsian, uses her illustration talents to create a modern expression of femininity. A Shutterstock contributor since 2009, Carin set out to create art for use in the beauty industry. In exercising her unique style, Carin finds inspiration from the colors and shapes of the 1920s Art Nouveau and the groovy 1960s. She creates illustrations of women with flowing and swirling locks of hair, as Carin feels that “hairstyling is an art in itself.”
Using Illustrator and a drawing tablet, Carin creates lovely ladies straight out of the salons, with plenty of adornments and curls. But mindful that her clients are designers who need flexibility, she makes sure to leave space for copy and easy options for layout integration. Carin says she enjoys creating her designs and having the opportunity to earn a living doing it. “With Shutterstock I have the opportunity to create any type of design about any subject and know there is another designer out there somewhere who may find my illustrations useful,” she says.
Carin’s favorites in her Shutterstock gallery include an image she calls Calavera Catrina (image 79236199) and her more recent Art Nouveau styles (image 82847218), which also popular among Shutterstock customers. Her illustrations have been used on beauty salon websites and promotions as well as book and music covers.
And in case you are wondering, Carin uses her favorite live model: herself!
