When you look at images by Shutterstock photographer Kati Molin, you enter a world of harmonious colors, pleasing textures, and beautiful locations. Molin constructs idyllic scenes of comfort, and photographs subjects that include homes, pets, holiday themes, nature, people and more.
“I don’t really think about what buyers might want, I just shoot what I feel like shooting,” Molin says. “I try to keep my portfolio versatile and be prepared for the biggest seasons. As soon as I have a theme for shooting I make a rough plan, get some stuff for a shoot if needed and shoot plenty of images.”
When she started taking photos, Molin challenged herself to shoot pictures as good as the ones in magazines. And she’s continued to refine her craft.
The photo you see at the top of this post, which has been a strong seller since it appeared on Shutterstock in 2009, was the result of practice.
“For this photo I was just practicing to use studio flashes. I got my daughter and her dog to model for me, and this photo from the set has turned out to be one of my most popular images,” Molin says.
With her eye for finding wonder in everyday scenes, it’s no surprise Molin’s images are popular. She says she often sees her images used in finished products—for example, on the cover of an airline magazine.
